Michael Watkins

Mike Watkins started in the financial services industry as a banker back in 1997. He quickly shifted his focus to wealth management, eventually publishing his Financial Planning guide “It’s Only Money” and writing a bi-weekly column for the Times Colonist called “Dollars and Sense”. Mike works with a wide range of clients in Victoria, and across Canada, helping them to become confident that their personal financial future is secure. When not in the office, Mike is focused on his wife and family.  And he enjoys reading and kickboxing (but not necessarily at the same time).

As the administrative lead on the team, she’s responsible for all documentation and scheduling meetings.  Karen’s passions include extensive charitable fundraising, hiking, tennis, sports, and wine tasting. Clients love her fiery attitude and her dedication to helping them achieve their goals.

Jordan Dawes

Jordan Dawes began his financial career with Coast Capital before joining the Watkins Wheeler Group. Along with his depth of client-focused experience, Jordan has worked diligently towards completing his investment management designation and will be moving into a client relationship role on the team. Jordan’s drive and desire to help clients achieve their financial goals is brought full force every day; although, on the odd day, you might catch him surfing off the coast or playing hockey.

Simon Millington

Business Development Associate

Simon Millington, our Business Development Associate has just completed his Business Commerce degree at the Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria and is not showing any signs of slowing down. Next on his educational agenda is to work towards his Canadian Securities Certification. Simon’s desire to constantly learn and improve, paired with his strong work ethic, make him an important asset to the Watkins Wheeler Group. Simon’s passions outside of work include music, traveling, and skiing.

 

Dee Govang, CFP®, CLU®

Senior Financial Planning Consultant

Dee is engaged in the development of your highly customized and comprehensive financial plan- the true foundation of your experience and the measure of future success. As part of this planning process, Dee explores relevant financial, retirement, tax, will and estate strategies. She has extensive experience providing financial planning advice to clients with complex and sophisticated needs and goals. Dee draws on the breadth of expertise that she has developed since entering the financial sector in 2003.

Dee is a Certified Financial Planner and has earned the Chartered Life Underwriter. The CLU is Canada’s premier wealth transfer and estate planning designation. Throughout her career, she has managed a large team of financial planners and has been a guest speaker on the topics of philanthropy, estate, and financial planning. Dee has served on the boards of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce and the local chapter of CAFÉ, the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise.

Patrick Smith, CPA®, CA, TEP

Patrick Smith

Patrick is responsible for providing advice and guidance to clients for will and estate planning strategies, ensuring that personal, philanthropic, financial and estate objectives are met.

Patrick holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics from Simon Fraser University and subsequently completed his articles in Vancouver, BC to become a Chartered Professional Accountant. Patrick has also completed CPA Canada’s In-Depth Income Tax Course and obtained the Trust and Estate Practitioner designation in 2015.

In addition to being a member of CPA Canada, Patrick is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Victoria Estate Planning Council.
